I’ve taken the most recent available data from the census website cite (sadly, 2012 is the most recent), and re-organized it differently than I’ve seen it before. I’ve seen a ranking of states from high to low, or highest and lowest districts. But to my knowledge, I haven’t seen it on a by county basis.
I find the patterns between states to be interesting – clearly there are different levels of commitment in different areas of the country. But also equally interesting is how even within a state there can be be counties in the highest and lowest quartiles for per student spending.
(note: 14482 school districts were aggregated on a county-wide basis for this display. Raw data available here: http://www.census.gov/govs/school/
