Discuss Readings

Some questions/issues to consider while discussing the readings (particularly Feynman & Gardner)

  • Instructional activities lead students to construct knowledge of and about various subject matters. How would you describe the kinds of knowledge developed by Feynman and the children.
  • What do these readings tell us about understanding? And importantly, what is understanding?
  • How does understanding differ from person to person? If it does, then how can we teach?
  • What have we learned about how knowledge is represented?

Some issues to consider while thinking about Cuban:

  • Are teachers hesitant to use technology in the classroom? Why?
  • Is this changing? Why?
  • What problems still persist?

Behaviorism
Matt will introduce behaviorism [behaviorism.ppt]

Work with your groups to develop an understanding of behaviorism. Your goal is two fold: (a) to collect materials, information, links etc. on behaviorism for use in your technology matrix; (b) work with your group to develop a powerpoint presentation that will teach some domain using behaviorist principles (due Monday afternoon).

Lunch
You might want to work on your behaviorism powerpoint, searching for resources for your matrix, etc.

Introduction to Making your Home Page
Aman will teach us how to make a homepage, and get it working on the MSU system.
